Gordon Mitchell

I started my career in law enforcement just over 10 years ago. My first three years were with a small agency in eastern Washington where I was a solo patrol officer in the city. This is where I learned the importance of community involvement and relationships. I carried this knowledge with me to a large county sheriff’s office where I now supervise a patrol squad as a Corporal. I am an active defensive tactics instructor, field training officer, and lead patrol tactics instructor through the state of Washington.

I am currently pursuing my bachelor’s in psychology, to deepen my understanding of the human mind and human behavior. I love teaching first responders' tactics to improve their skills at work and I am passionate about integrating emotional intelligence into personal and professional development. Emotional intelligence applies in the tactical work environment and in personal relationships at home. It is the foundation of wellness. I use stories and personal experience to make the well-researched topics I teach more relatable.

I share my story of cumulative and post-traumatic stress with emotion and passion while extracting usable training takeaways to connect with my audience and build relationships of vulnerability and trust. These training takeaways are based on my personal experience and supported by research. Whether my audience has never experienced trauma or is currently suffering from PTSD they will gain the awareness and knowledge of steps to improve themselves or help others in need.

Wellness is not a state of being, it is a state of action. One cannot simply “be well,” it takes work. Arduous work in some cases. Do the work, you are worth the effort!
